Grand Egyptian Museum launches anniversary light show
The “Eternal Sun” production is set to run for six months, with performances beginning after sunset.

Egypt’s Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza opened its “Eternal Sun” light and sound show on Nov. 1, 2026, celebrating a year since the museum’s inauguration. The production uses music and illuminated displays on the museum’s walls to recount stories from Egyptian civilization.
Creative director Amr Abdel Nasser said the aim was to show international audiences that Egypt continues to tell its history in new ways through the latest technology. The show starts after sunset and is scheduled for a six-month run.
Around 5 million people have visited the museum since its opening, CEO Ahmed Ghoneim said. Foreign visitors accounted for about 60% of that number. Ghoneim said technology helps the museum offer Egyptian and overseas visitors an experience beyond viewing artifacts.
Located near the pyramids on Cairo’s outskirts, the $1 billion museum houses nearly 50,000 artifacts. Its holdings include treasures recovered from King Tutankhamun’s tomb, which was discovered in 1922.
